RJ 009 Ann Brenoff of the Huffington Post
Ann Brenoff has been with the Huffington Post since May 2011. Her column appears regularly in the Huff/Post 50 section. Ann writes about work, life and retirement issues often including her own personal experience. Her writing gives a voice to older workers and retirees that normalizes and humanizes them.
In this session of the Retirement Journeys podcast Ann discusses the experience of losing her job at the LA Times at the age of 59, how she felt about it and what she did to survive. It may surprise you that Ann did not immediately seek or regain regular employment. Instead, she was self-employed for 2 years starting up and running many small businesses. During that time Ann was not only opportunistic but she also created opportunities. One such opportunity was the chance to learn the world of social media, mobile technology and the internet without which she could not have gone on to work at the Huffington Post. She offers advice to others, especially writers, who may be facing their own employment challenges.
