The Mogollon Rim is actually the southwestern end of the Colorado Plateau. It runs for 275 miles from eastern Arizona northwest to Sedona. The Rim Road is Forest Road 300. We accessed it from the west (near the small town of Strawberry) and headed east. There were many surprises along the way: a forest fire visible off in the distance (we could see the flames with our binoculars); wild life (turkeys and elk); traversing the trail blazed by General George Crook in 1870; very cold temps (in the 60s); and several lakes with the opportunity for recreation. All in all a very interesting day trip.
